History

The International Society of Urological Pathology was founded on Sunday, March 15, 1992 in Atlanta Georgia during the Annual Scientific Meeting of the United States, Canadian Academy of Pathology. At the inaugural meeting Leopold G. Koss was elected as Founder-President and after a brief scientific session, President Koss reported that negotiations with the United States, Canadian Academy of Pathology had been successfully completed and that annually the Society would conduct a scientific meeting as part of the Annual Meeting of the Academy.

The first international scientific meeting of the Society was held in conjunction with the Congress of the International Academy of Pathology in Madrid, Spain in 1992. The inaugural scientific meeting in conjunction with the United States, Canadian Academy of Pathology Annual Meeting was held on March 13, 1993 in New Orleans. There were 125 attendees at this meeting which focussed upon recent advances in prostate surgical pathology.

Now in its 19th year the Society continues to hold an annual scientific meeting which is usually attended by in excess of 500 delegates. In addition to this the Society regularly convenes companion meetings at the Congress of the International Academy of Pathology, The International Meeting of the International Union Against Cancer (UICC), the Australasian Division of the IAP and European Society of Pathology.

The International Society of Urological Pathology will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a consensus conference on renal cell tumours (ISUP Consensus Conference Series No 4), to be held in Vancouver in 2012.

Officers of the Society
